Catherine McCord Larsen

Catherine McCord Larsen, soprano, is an active soloist in oratorio and chamber music performances throughout the country. Recent appearances include Poulenc’s Gloria with the Mississippi Valley Orchestra, conducted by Henry Charles Smith and Ich Bin Angstlicher by Abbie Betinis with the Womenperformhers string ensemble in Minneapolis.

A singer with a great passion for Bach, Ms. McCord Larsen has been a featured soloist in several LSM Bach Cantata Sunday services. Her portrayal of “Lieschen” in a recent staged version of Bach’s Schweigt Stille, plaudert nicht (Coffee Cantata) with members of the Ataria string quartet, was met with enthusiastic critical acclaim. She performed the Twin Cities premiers of Handel’s Gloria and the stunning Daybreak, a work for solo soprano and string quartet by Rebecca Clarke. She was the soprano soloist in the Lyra Baroque Orchestra’s performances of Handel’s Messiah, Arvo Pärt's Magnificat with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and J.S. Bach’s Weihnachts-Oratorium (Christmas Oratorio) with the Peoria Bach Festival in Illinois.

While living in her native state of California, Ms. McCord Larsen was a frequent featured soloist with the Los Angeles Baroque Orchestra and performed Baroque opera roles as part of the I Nacamichi Early Music Series conducted by Nicolas McGegan. She has appeared with the Carmel and Oregon Bach Festivals conducted by Bruno Weil and Helmuth Rilling. Professional choral affiliations have included memberships in the Dale Warland Singers, Los Angeles Master Chorale and the vocal ensemble, I Cantori with whom she recorded A Choir of Angels featuring early vocal music of the Americas.
Ms. McCord Larsen is a frequently sought after solo and ensemble contest judge and clinician and has enjoyed a long-standing membership in the National Association of Teachers of Singers (NATS). She serves on the voice faculty at the University of Northwestern-St. Paul where she has taught since 1996. Ms. McCord Larsen is a member of Screen Actor’s Guild (SAG-AFTRA) and can be heard on numerous film and commercial sound tracks including Empire of the Sun, Hook, Grand Canyon, Simple Twist of Fate, and Star Trek Generations. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California-Santa Barbara and a Master of Fine Arts degree in vocal music from California Institute of the Arts.  2015 marks her twelfth summer with LSM.
